Liverpool loanee Sakho sees Palace spell ended by injury

Liverpool loanees Mamadou Sakho and Lazar Markovic have seemingly both played their last games for Crystal Palace and Hull City this season.

Sakho was stretchered off midway through the second half in Palace's 1-0 defeat at home to Tottenham back in April, but Sam Allardyce was hopeful he could make a swift return.

Allardyce had long believed 38 points - Palace's present total - could prove enough to avoid relegation but now knows that a draw against their under-threat opponents would guarantee survival.

"I didn't get my hopes up too much and we had to wait for the scans. Maybe if he was a quick healer we might have speeded the process up but that does not appear to be the case".

Allardyce said that Palace Chairman Steve Parish had warned him about Zaha's treatment before he replaced Alan Pardew in January but there has been no improvement. "We're supposed to be improving the game for our more skilful players, where we've rightly outlawed tackling from behind and so on".

Maria Sharapova wins first match after return to tennis from doping ban
Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, will now face the challenge of France's Kristina Mladenovic in the last four. Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova will meet Romania's Simona Halep in the quarter-finals.

"We play not to lose - that is the key element".

Palace face Hull before travelling to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on the last day of the season, and Allardyce confirmed he will not have the Frenchman to call upon. "The good teams show what they can do in these moments".

"We need to give confidence to the other players who play in that position". These are the moments for the big players, the very good players.

"The managing of those eight players and putting them together so quickly deserves a lot of credit to the manager on how he's integrated the players and tried to fight their way out".
