Illinois Senate Approves State-Funded Abortion Coverage

Senate co-sponsor Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) added that the bill would make illegals feel "safe" in IL.

A poll by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in October 2016 found similar results where 58 percent of likely voters say Medicaid should not cover abortion, while only 36 percent say Medicaid should cover the procedure. Neil Anderson, R-Andalusia, said.

"It's not our place here in this chamber to decide when it's appropriate for a woman to decide whether or not she should get an abortion", said Democratic Sen.

A veto by Rauner would be a sharp turn from his previous position, which political opponents are poised to exploit.

The legislation, which was introduced shortly after the election of President Donald Trump, passed the House on April 25 in a 62-55 vote that had five Democrats vote against the bill. Jil Tracy, R-Quincy, "why would we use taxpayer money to fund abortions of children?"

"It is time for us ... to ensure it and keep it safe here", Steans said.

Wizards Fall to Celtics in Game 5 of Semifinals
The Celtics came out inspired on defense, and Thomas's backcourt mate, Avery Bradley , scored at will early in the game. On the flip side, The Wizards margin of victory over Boston in their four homes games are 15, 19, 25 and 27 points.

Sen. Linda Holmes, D-Aurora, said it was not up to lawmakers to play "God, judge and jury" about what a woman should do with her body. State Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Olympia Fields, asked shortly before the vote.

That led Feigenholtz to deride the governor as a "flip-flopper" who lied about supporting abortion rights to win votes during the campaign. It would also ensure abortions remain legal in IL, even if Roe v. Wade is overturned at the federal level - a theoretical future issue that advocates say is a crucial safety valve with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office but which critics say is a false frenzy to rush, given that the makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court has not shifted.

Besides repealing the trigger law, the bill would allow the state's Medicaid recipients to have abortions covered - with the state already paying for abortions for cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother. In a letter, Cupich urged Catholics to contact elected officials and let them know that "taxpayers should not be forced to fund the taking of human life".

Senators are "scraping and clawing" to find cuts and revenues as they seek to draft a budget proposal, said Sen.

In a statement on the 2014 questionnaire, Rauner wrote: "I dislike the IL law that restricts abortion coverage under the state Medicaid plan and state employees' health insurance because I believe it unfairly restricts access based on income". The Democratic-controlled Senate voted Wednesday to expand public financing for abortions and ensure legal access to the procedure across the state, although the measure likely awaits a veto by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.

IL joins a host of liberal states - many of which also wallow in a budget crisis - in efforts to thwart federal immigration laws.
