Hamilton pleased with seventh finish in Monaco

Hamilton had started 13th after a nightmare in qualifying, with the Briton unable to get his car's tyres performing in the requisite window while Ferrari looked suddenly in a league of their own.

What had been a processional race, with the wider new cars making overtaking more hard, turned into sudden drama with a collision between Jenson Button's McLaren and Pascal Wehrlein's Sauber at the tunnel entrance. The Mexican's front left hit the right side pod of the Russian's vehicle, ending the latter's race immediately. While the incident left Wehrlein unharmed, he could not get out of the vehicle till he was back on to all four wheels.

With Raikkonen as his rear gunner, Vettel had no problem retaining the lead when racing resumed after the Safety Car and he crossed the line 3.1s ahead of his teammate. And following his troubled performance in qualifying, he had it all to do on Sunday at a track where is virtually impossible to overtake.

Whether Vettel's win was entirely deserved is subject to whether or not you can see team orders in Ferrari's race tactics, with pole position Raikkonen.

A gearbox failure for Renault's Nico Hulkenberg before Sergio Perez pitted for a new front wing promoted him to 10th, but the triple world champion, complaining of poor grip, was already 35 seconds behind race leader Raikkonen by the end of lap 24.

Vettel's lead was wiped away by a late safety auto, but the four-time world champion kept cool at the front on the restart to record his second Monaco victory, following his maiden success in 2011.

Verstappen was fastest in Q1 ahead of Vettel and Raikkonen, with Hamilton already an ominous 10th. It is the Maranello squad's first 1-2 finish since the 2010 German Grand Prix.

Also producing quite the drive was Hamilton.

The FBI is investigating this killing as a hate crime because Urbanski was a member of the "Alt-Reich Nation" Facebook group. However, UMPD said he was part of a racially charged Facebook group, which could lead to additional hate crime charges .

Ricciardo took full advantage by staying out and setting a series of quick laps in clear air that allowed him to stop on lap 38 and come out ahead of both Bottas and Verstappen. Vettel starts the race on the front row alongside teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

It was the second race weekend of the season where Hamilton has struggled with his car's handling and he recognised something had to change.

"I take a lot of pride in the fact I am very strong mentally", said Hamilton. Hamilton didn't even make Q3, the first time he's failed to do so since 2013 because of a lack of pace, which is extremely poor by his standards.

Everything seemed to be going Ferrari's way, but Raikkonen's tyres appeared to start falling off before Lap 20, with Bottas suddenly lapping fastest.

"I don't know why everyone thinks it will be different tomorrow than the last two years", Raikkonen said.

"It's still second place but it doesn't feel awfully good".

Even Rosberg, who has retired from F1 and was conducting the interviews immediately after the race, offered his sympathy. "It's not a good feeling".
