Google To Launch Dedicated VR Headset At I/O 2017

Google To Launch Dedicated VR Headset At I/O 2017

Earlier a year ago, there were reports that Google is working on a standalone VR headset (one that doesn't rely on a smartphone, PC, or a gaming console to function). The new headset is the next evolution in Google's VR development and besides building on, expanding and improving the Daydream platform, Google brings in some other technologies. Another reason for Google to introduce a new high-end VR headset has to do with an ironic story.

However the report notes that it is unclear as to what software will be used to power this headset, whether it be Android or maybe something completely new of Google's own making, but until we hear it from Google officially, take it with a grain of salt for now.

Another piece of the puzzle in Google's VR quest is its stockpile of great VR apps.

Staiano tied for 26th after 36 holes of 2017 NCAA Austin Regional
The top five teams in the regional advance to the NCAAA tournament later this month at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. Auburn will tee off in Wednesday's final round of the NCAA Regional at 7:50 am ET off No. 1 with Purdue and No. 8 IL .

The technology has been described as cutting-edge and will likely include inside-out positional tracking. Oculus is also working an inside-out tracking headset. The device will use inside-out tracking, meaning that it won't require any additional sensors to track your movements. Tango started out as a project of Google's X lab, but has since become part of the same VR group that has also been developing Daydream.

Google has not commented on their plans to show a new headset at Google I/O. Tango phones are capable of mapping a room, allowing developers to arrange virtual characters in relation to real objects and track the movement of the phone as it user moves through the room. The input required by the headset for letting the user easily use a 3D space will be generated by it without the assistance of an external device. In an odd twist though, none of these leading VR apps work on the Daydream platform, but they do work on rival platforms like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
