Fox News' Kimberly Guilfoyle in talks for White House press secretary job

FOX News host Kimberly Guilfoyle is in conversations with the Trump administration about replacing Sean Spicer as White House press secretary.

Is President Donald Trump planning to fire Sean Spicer?

White House officials told The Washington Post that Trump was furious when he returned to his private residence that evening and saw that virtually none of his allies were defending him and his top spokesman had "hid in the bushes" to avoid reporters, as several outlets later described it.

The story notes that Trump has always been frustrated by his communications team: in a Fox & Friends interview from February, the famously boastful president gave himself an A+ grade for effort, but a modest "C or a C+" for messaging.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who filled in for Spicer the two days after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, is expected to take the lion's share of press briefings, though Trump is considering cutting down - or eliminating - on the number of briefings, Politico reported.

And the Trump administration has been beset by a string of Russia-related bombshell news stories over the past week, prompting the president to shift blame to his communications team for not doing a better job with messaging, according to Politico.

Trump Told Russians Firing 'Nut Job' Comey Relieved 'Great Pressure'
Comey is known to produce memos documenting especially sensitive or unsettling encounters, such as after the February meeting. The Russian government is accused by United States intelligence of trying to tilt the 2016 election in Trump's favor.

"Just don't have them", Trump said to Fox News host Jeanine Pirro. He's publicly defended him during his near-weekly scandals and angrily combatting reporters who dare question the failings of the Trump administration. Amid the controversy now surrounding the White House, Trump is apparently mulling an end to Sean Spicer's daily White House press briefings.

Guilfoyle, who co-hosts Fox's The Five, quickly backtracked, releasing a statement saying her current job is "tough to beat".

TRUMP: And here's the thing, the difference between me and another president.

'I think I have a very good relationship with the president, ' she told the Mercury News. "The one that's built on trust and integrity, and I think that's imperious for success in this position stated in the interview, I really love what I do and my job co-hosting The Five is tough to beat". She also expressed her respect for Mr Spicer, whose press appearances have been beset by multiple gaffes, and branded him a "very nice man" and a "patriot".

'He's been there from the beginning, ' Trump added coyly.
