David Ayer in talks to direct 'Scarface' reboot

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures'Scarface remake has found a director in David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Street Kings, End of Watch), replacing the previously-attached Antoine Fuqua (who coincidentally helmed Ayer's script for Training Day). The movie will be set in Los Angeles and will incorporate many modern elements into the mix.

EW has confirmed the studio is in early negotiations with the Suicide Squad director, who is being courted to oversee production on the upcoming project. This new version of the gangster thriller has shifted locations from Miami to Los Angeles, and Ayer knows the dirty, gritty streets of modern day L.A.as well as any other current filmmaker.

Aye, is now directing and producing Bright, which will also star Will Smith, Ike Barinholtz, Noomi Rapace and Edgar Ramirez. Earlier drafts were written by Paul Attanasio and David Ayer.

Rosenstein: Comey Routinely 'Usurped' the DOJ
The president has defended the firing of Comey as justified and denied pressuring him to end the Flynn probe. Rosenstein briefed senators Thursday, just a week after Trump's stunning decision to fire Comey.

Diego Luna is now attached to star with the latest draft of the script penned by The Coen Brothers.

Scarface is scheduled to hit theaters in August 2018. Plus, it presumably keeps him away from Gotham City Sirens, a film I'd much rather see someone else - anyone else - step in to direct. Martin Bregman, who produced the 1983 original, will return to produce again.

The new "Scarface", will be produced by Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark Productions and Scott Stuber. It's the second remake of the immigrant drug lord classic: The first version of the film debuted in 1932, and was remade in 1983 by Brian DePalma, starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer.
