Betty Shelby, Tulsa Cop, Acquitted in Fatal Shooting

After more than eight hours of deliberations, the jury reached a verdict to acquit Officer Shelby of her manslaughter charge, according to NBC News.

Police said Crutcher failed to obey commands, and Shelby testified she thought Crutcher was reaching for something in his SUV.

Shelby told the court on Monday that she fired her weapon that day because "I feared for my life". Officer Shelby has been on unpaid leave from the Tulsa Police Department since she was charged. The video taken of Crutcher's shooting by a dashboard camera and helicopter shows Crutcher walking away from Shelby toward his SUV with hands above his head.

Betty Shelby, 43, was acquitted after a week-long trial.

She's been on unpaid leave since she was charged September 22.

Family members and local pastors condemned the defense's arguments that they say made Crutcher into the villain.

In video footage from a dashboard camera, Crutcher is seen with his hands up, leaning against his vehicle.

Trump reportedly asked Comey to consider imprisoning members of the press
They asked the White House to turn over 'records of interactions with former Director Comey, including any audio recordings'. More than one million people have signed a petition to impeach Donald Trump as scandals continue to befall the White House .

In an exclusive interview with "60 Minutes" last month, Shelby said she felt nearly any police officer in her position would have acted as she did.

They said the DA uses law enforcement in court, but criticizes them, failing to educate the jury on what police officers do, that the jury couldn't judge on their own. However, U.S. Attorney Danny Williams Sr., who was leading the investigation and vowed to "seek justice on behalf of this family, and for the public" was among the dozens of U.S. Attorneys whom the Trump administration asked to resign in March.

The family of Crutcher burst into tears and reacted with outrage.

Following Shelby's acquittal, protesters gathered outside the Tulsa County Courthouse holding signs and shouting "No justice, no peace, no racist police".

Crutcher then collapses to the ground and Shelby yells into the radio, "Shots fired!"

Jordan told reporters earlier Thursday that Shelby's employment status was being evaluated by the legal and human resources departments within the Police Department and the city of Tulsa. Rights advocates saw the Crutcher case as another in a string of deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of the police in the United States that has spawned periodic protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. Crutcher was found to be unarmed after the shooting. "And because she didn't pause, my family, we've had to pause", Tiffany Crutcher said.

After the verdict was announced, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin issued a statement calling for calm, saying, "Those who disagree with the verdict have the right to express their opinions; I just ask that they do so in a peaceful manner". It does not change our work to institute community policing measures that empower citizens to work side by side with police officers in making our community safer. "They say, 'Dr. Marshall, we're doing what you told us to do - get an education and work within the system - and it's still not working for us".
