Anthony Weiner cries while apologizing in court

Anthony Weiner cries while apologizing in court

CNN, citing law enforcement officials, reported last September that prosecutors in the office of then-US Attorney Preet Bharara issued a subpoena for Weiner's cell phone and other records as part of an investigation into alleged "sexting" with a purportedly underage girl. The charge comes with a potential of up to 10 years in prison.

This news comes after Weiner pleaded guilty on Friday to sending sexually explicit texts to a 15-year-old girl. Hillary Clinton's trusted aide filed an anonymous versus anonymous action in the Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the outlet, and is asking for the case to be sealed.

"I was contacted by, and began exchanging online messages with, a stranger who said that she was a high school student and who I understood to be 15 years old", he said, adding: "I engaged in obscene communications with this teenager, including sharing explicit images and encouraging her to engage in sexually explicit conduct, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women".

Weiner will plead guilty to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor, pursuant to a plea agreement with the US attorney's office in New York City, the Times reported.

The plea calls for a prison sentence between 21 and 27 months, though the sentencing judge is free to impose more or less time. His lawyer can request leniency at a sentencing scheduled for September 8.

Amid sobs, he said that last fall he "came to grips for the first time with the depths of my sickness".

James Comey Literally Tried to Hide Behind a Curtain to Avoid Trump
Rosenstein fielded questions in the closed session for more than an hour, but many senators left the briefing unsatisfied. Congressional committees are eager for Comey's testimony following Trump's unsuspected firing of him last week.

He said he "compulsively sought attention from women who contacted me on social media" beginning with his service in Congress and continuing through the first half of past year.

July 22: With Weiner leading in the polls, a gossip website posts sexually explicit messages it says were exchanged between Weiner and a woman later identified as in native Sydney Leathers.

The former congressman is expected to enter the plea Friday. Comey announced shortly before the election that the new emails contained nothing to change his view that Clinton could not be charged with a crime.

Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after he was caught lying to the media about his propensity to send sexting messages over Twitter.

Weiner's lawyer, Arlo Devlin Brown, didn't immediately return a message Friday. The FBI subsequently dug into his electronic devices, and James Comey used part of what was found to reopen the probe into Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Weiner ran unsuccessfully for mayor of NY in 2013 in a campaign that collapsed when Weiner, using the alias "Carlos Danger", again was found to be sending explicit photographs.
