1 dead, 2 injured after bus crash in Ashland County

The auto he was driving rear-ended a school bus in Salem, Wisconsin just north of the IL border Friday morning in the 24500 block of Wilmot Road.

The accident was reported to the 911 emergency dispatch operator at about 7:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Ashland County Deputies and other agencies arrived on scene to find the driver of the vehicle not breathing.

Additional medical units and helicopters were dispatched but later canceled en-route.

According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the bus was traveling northbound on STH 112 when it was struck from behind by a auto driven by a 16-year-old Ashland High School student.

Three injured students were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour on Highway C, which closed between Highway 83 and 258th Avenue while authorities investigated the crash.

Pending notification of family, the identity of the driver has not been released.
