Voting opens to name April the giraffe's baby boy

She was made famous when Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York began to live stream her activity counting down the days before her baby was born.

April's pregnancy was catapulted into global headlines in late February after YouTube briefly yanked the zoo's live stream following complaints by animal activists that it violated the site's policies concerning "nudity and sexual content".

Animal Adventure Park posted on its Facebook page Sunday that the calf weighs 129 pounds (58.5 kilograms) and stands 5 feet 9 inches tall (1.75 meters).

Thirty minutes later April began helping her calf take its first steps on its wobbly legs.

A zookeeper described the birth as a "perfect delivery" and announced the gender of the baby after April and the calf had spent more time together.

The internet's most anticipated giraffe is here and ready to be named.

The Bulls also had their moments of fallibility. "It's a frightful tragedy, " Hoiberg said. "It's playoff basketball. Both teams were playing with high energy and effort, and at the end of the first, the Bulls trailed 23-28.

According to their website, the public can submit potential names for the male calf and/or vote for their favorite names.

April is one of the most popular residents at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York.

April is said to have recovered perfectly and is eating "everything in sight". She had an online audience of more than a million viewers. April was pregnant for 16 months, a month longer than the average giraffe gestation period.

People have been glued to the live feed from Animal Adventure Park for weeks, waiting for this moment.

"His entrance into the world was unnerving to even those of us who have witnessed animal births previously", Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch said in a release to the media. Watch the birth here.
