UN Security Council condemns North Korea missile test

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang speaks at the press conference in Beijing on April 20,2014.

Trump has taken a hard line with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has proceeded with nuclear and missile programs in defiance of U.N. Security Council sanctions.

US Vice-President Mike Pence, on a trip to Asia, has repeatedly warned that the "era of strategic patience" with North Korea is over and on Wednesday said the US would meet any attack with an "overwhelming response".

"The truth seems to be that the U.S. military and president jointly created fake news and it is without doubt a rare scandal in USA history, which will be bound to cripple Trump's and United States dignity", it said.

However, Reuters quoted USA officials as saying that they were aware of a higher-than-usual level of activity by Chinese bombers.

Russian Federation blocked the release of the statement, a Security Council diplomat said.

It would also demand an immediate end to the North's nuclear and missile tests, threaten to take "further significant measures" - United Nations code for new sanctions - and state that North Korea's illegal activities "are greatly increasing tension in the region and beyond".

North Korea test-fired what the United States believed was a mid-range missile on Sunday.

Another window of opportunity is coming up with the 85th anniversary of the founding of North Korea's army on Tuesday.

Ottawa weather forecast calls for a rainy Friday
Lows this morning are more pleasant than what we saw yesterday, as temperatures are holding steady in the upper 40s and lower 50s. SATURDAY: Widespread rain showers and thunderstorms will be possible across Kentucky, with a cool high temperature of 55 degrees.

We saw over the weekend North Korea putting its missiles on parade while celebrating the birthday of its founder Kim Il-sung, only to see a test launch of missile fail in spectacular fashion later on. He did not comment on what might have caused the missile to fail.

He said that under Trump, the US will stand up to its enemies with its allies.

After meeting with Abe, Pence held talks with Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso on a new U.S. -Japan "economic dialogue" to be led by the two.

Mr Abe said it was a "matter of paramount importance for us to seek diplomatic efforts as well peaceable settlements of the issue".

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres separately said "everything" must be done to confront the threat from North Korea and ensure that its missile and nuclear programs do not pose an worldwide threat.

US President Donald Trump has been pressing China to rein in North Korea, suggesting that doing so could ease US-China relations over trade and other issues. But it remains unclear what might come next. "The game that Trump is trying to play requires extremely careful coordination where they are attempting to use the threat of armed forces as a political instrument".

The warning comes ahead of some of the first group trips to depart for North Korea from Israel.

China made a plea for a return to negotiations.

Lu said Beijing wants to resume the multi-party negotiations that ended in stalemate in 2009 and suggested that USA plans to deploy a missile defense system in South Korea were damaging its relations with China.
