The Ascent concept shown in NY has seating for up to seven.
Now, this isn't Subaru's first adventure into the three-row crossover game, but the company would rather not talk about the ill-fated Tribeca.
Also important to note is that the Ascent Concept is slightly smaller than the Viziv-7, measuring 198.8 inches (5,049 mm) in length, 78.3 inches (1,989 mm) in width and 72.4 inches (1,839 mm) in height.
The Ascent concept's styling cues have evolved from the previous Visiv-7 concept and offer a better look at what the production model will look like.

The 3-row Ascent made its debut at the 2017 NY auto show alongside the redesigned 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and updated 2018 Subaru Outback.
Info about the engine hasn't been confirmed, although Subaru does say it features a "newly-developed boxer" engine with direct injection and a turbocharger. Expect the final version of the auto to have less futuristic headlights, slightly bigger side mirrors, conventional door handles, and possibly some light tweaks to both bumpers. Expect Subaru to employ a continuously variable automatic transmission as the middleman between the engine and the drive wheels.
The2018 Subaru Ascent will be riding on the Global Platform made from high-strength steel. WRX enthusiasts are always clamoring for more power and less turbo-lag, and a modified version of the new engine would seem like a fairly obvious candidate. The dashboard, with its metal and full leather wrapping, is likely to switch to more plastic, though the core layout will probably stay much the same. (As we previously reported, the forthcoming Lafayette, Indiana-built vehicle will carry that name into dealerships.) The Ascent makes a bold visual statement highlighted by a front end that features the brand's "Konoji" daytime-running-light design and a massive grille, while the overall proportions remind us of the recently introduced Volkswagen Atlas. Other details will be released closer to the on-sale date.
