Record-breaking debut for newest 'Fast and Furious' flick

The "Fate of the Furious" is an important success for the fate of Atlanta's robust film industry.

The Fate of the Furious raced to an estimated $532.5-M global debut over Easter weekend, including $100.2-M domestically and a $432.2-M overseas.

"The Fate of the Furious" has numerous returning stars like Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese and Ludacris, but has added some new elements behind the camera in director F. Gary Gray and in front of the camera with Charlize Theron. The previous record holder was "Jurassic World", with $316.7 million.

As expected, The Fate of the Furious roared into theaters this weekend, proving to be a domestic box-office behemoth with a $100.2 million haul. The film benefited from opening in China in its first weekend, while The Force Awakens didn't premiere in that country until a month after its first global release, said Paul Dergarabedian, a media analyst at ComScore.

DreamWorks Animation and Fox's "The Boss Baby" was a distant second place, bringing in an estimated 15.5 million USA dollars to push its gross to 116.3 million US dollars in North America.

The gestation period for giraffes is 14 or 15 months , and by the end carting around 129 pounds of some other being ain't no joke. According to The Associated Press , at least 1.2 million people watched the event on the Animal Adventure Park's YouTube page.

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" landed in third place with an estimated US$13.6 million.

Fast 8's opening box office haul breaks the previous record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Fast and Furious movies have collectively grossed more than $3.9-B globally. At least two more movies are planned. "The "Furious" franchise perfectly represents what that global audience is all about". Newcomers include Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren and Scott Eastwood.

On the basis of U.S. box office alone, it falls to a stunning 42nd place on the same list, behind, well, everything: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, a bunch of Marvel movies, Iron Man, some of the Harry Potter films, The Hunger Games, Deadpool, Finding Dory and, more recently, even Beauty and the Beast. But Dom encounters a villain named Cipher (played by Theron) who tries to seduce him into a world of crime, setting the team up for a new fight.

However, given the extended four-day weekend, the film could have done much better.
