MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — For Prince fans, the one-year anniversary of his shocking death from an accidental drug overdose will be a time for sadness and celebration. The team has several tributes planned, which include the first 10,000 fans receiving a special "Purple Rain" umbrella. Those shirts will be auctioned off at to further benefit aspiring musicians within Minnesota's school system. In fact, this year might offer more noteworthy Prince-related events and releases than even last year did.

With tattoos, purple-hued tributes, concerts and dance parties, Prince fans around the world are commemorating the superstar musician, who died at age 57 of a drug overdose on April 21 a year ago.

Tickets were sold out for an exclusive four-day celebration of concerts, panel discussions and parties at the 65,000 square-foot (6,000 square-meter) Paisley Park complex in Minnesota, the midwestern USA state which Prince made his lifelong home despite his global fame. Fans who can't afford those high-dollar tickets can head to a street party outside the club he made famous in "Purple Rain". Prince's estate and Paisley Park Enterprises sued to block it. Prince's iconic "Purple Rain" costume was on display at the Minnesota History Center and Governor Mark Dayton declared April 21 "Prince Day in Minnesota".

The band that helped catapult Prince to global superstardom is reuniting in his memory.

Russian Federation warns United States against unilateral strike on North Korea
The failed North Korean missile test over the weekend was an attempt by the reclusive country to "provoke something", U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Tuesday, pledging that the United States will work with China to reduce tensions.

The pop star died without a will or children, and dozens of people came forward after his death, claiming they were heirs.

The band also seemed to have figured out how to handle the Prince-sized hole in the vocals department. Like most fans, I wanted to see him, but I never would have approached him.

May 2016: Shonda Rhimes used Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Delirious" on two of her hit ABC shows, Grey's Anatomy and Scandal.

"Around the World in a Day" (from 1985's Around the World in a Day) - Around the World in a Day was the daring follow-up to Purple Rain, and the title track that opened the album was most fans' first taste of the record (since, per Prince's request, the label didn't start releasing singles until after the album came out).
