Philippine's Duterte wins Time magazine poll

The plane carrying the 140 undocumented OFWs - 65 women, 55 men, and 20 children - from Saudi Arabia landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 a few minutes before President Duterte's flight landed. Duterte was leading the poll for much of the voting, which closed Sunday night.

The official TIME 100 list, will be announced on April 20. He leads the pack with that rating, followed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Pope Francis, both of whom got 3 percent. The others who stood on the same platform where PM Modi stood tall are Ivanka Trump and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez and Ivanka Trump.

Duterte concluded with a total of 5 percent of votes.

The tough-talking president gained worldwide attention for making lewd remarks against former US President Barack Obama and the Catholic leader Pope Francis.

"I am very happy and proud that Duterte won the Times poll as one of the most influential persons for 2017 and at the same time I feel amused that it had to be Times magazine", she said.

Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders had won the Reader Poll previous year while Russian President Vladimir Putin had won in 2015. Putin was at the first spot in 2015. He was named by Time editors among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2015 and Obama had written a profile for him for the magazine. Last year, former Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan, tennis star Sania Mirza, actor Priyanka Chopra, Google's India-born CEO Sundar Pichai and founders of Flipkart Binny and Sachin Bansal were among Time's list of the 100 most influential people.
