Painkiller prescribed for Prince in another name

Painkiller prescribed for Prince in another name

No one has been charged in connection with his death, but authorities say the investigation is still open and active.

An official with knowledge of the investigation told The Associated Press that authorities still haven't interviewed a key associate who was with Prince in his final days, and they haven't asked a grand jury to investigate.

Fentanyl is the strongest painkiller on the market, estimated to be at least 50 times more potent than morphine and at least 30 times more potent than heroin.

According to the search warrants, investigators found several pills labeled Watson 853 - the identifier for generic hydrocodone-acetaminophen.

Between April 21 and September 19, 2016, Carver County authorities conducted investigations into Prince's death with a total of 11 search warrants.

The investigation showed Johnson would contact Dr. Schulenberg to help Prince with his hip pain.

The documents said Prince did not have any prescriptions, including for fentanyl.

Kornfeld told detectives that he had drugs in his backpack to help Prince, but would not have administered them without a doctor present.

Authorities said Prince's laptop was not taken during an initial warrant but it became clear later in the investigation that items on it would be significant when they discovered he did not communicate by cellphone, but instead used email and the hard phone line at Paisley Park extensively.

Authorities also searched Johnson's cellphone records, to see who he was communicating with in the month before Prince died. The suitcase also contained lyrics for the song "U Got the Look" that appeared to be in Prince's handwriting.

Police believe that was an alias Prince used when he travelled. Deputies attempted CPR but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The doctor left his job at North Memorial Medical Center almost three weeks after Prince's death.

However, according to the Star Tribune, investigators have been working under the theory that the pop star did not know the pills contained fentanyl.

The pop star was 57 when he was found dead in an elevator at his home in Paisley Park on April 21 past year.

April 20, 2016: Schulenberg treats Prince again.

Schulenberg is practicing family medicine in Minnesota and Conners said there are no restrictions on his license. "Dr. Schulenberg has previously disclosed all information regarding his care and treatment of Prince to his former employer, law enforcement authorities and regulatory authorities in the course of his complete cooperation with the investigation of Prince's death". Dr. Schulenberg met with Prince and prescribed him Clonidine, Hydroxyzine Pamoate and Diazepam, according to the search warrant.

While returning to Minneapolis, Prince's private plane makes an emergency landing in Moline, Ill., about 1:15 a.m. after he overdoses on opioids, according to a source.

Investigators spoke with one of Prince's previous bodyguards who said the singer was very untrusting of cell phones, after his cell phone was hacked and his personal information was stolen. During a search warrant executed at Paisley Park on April 21, the day Prince was found dead, a suitcase was found in Prince's bedroom next to his bed.

Dr. Howard Kornfeld sent his son, Andrew, to Minnesota that night, and the younger Kornfeld was among those who found Prince's body.

But by the time Andrew Kornfeld arrived at the singer's Paisley Park complex on the morning of April 21, it was too late.
