Sony just announced its most advanced full-frame camera for professional photographers yet. It has by far the best sensor tech on the market and supplies most other camera- and smartphone-makers, but the new model is the first to use its full-frame stacked CMOS sensor, driven by an upgraded BIONZ processor. Users can take advantage of blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20 fps for up to 241 RAW files or 362 JPEG images. The expanded ISO range starts at 50, and runs all the way to a staggering 204,800. It also supports uncompressed 14-bit RAW capture as well as 4K (3840x2160p) video recording across the full width of the full-frame image sensor.
The new Alpha 9 promises blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps while undertaking 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second. The camera is priced at $4,500 and will begin shipping in May. It's also customisable, with options for 60fps or 120fps.
The Alpha 9 will also fit a second SD card slot which will be UHS-II compatible. Also, with a simple half press of the shutter button, the effect of the image stabilization can be monitored in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen, allowing framing and focus to be accurately checked and continually monitored. The "My Menu" feature allows up to 30 menu items to be registered in a custom menu.
