The release of Switch and all the great games launched in March boosted overall video game spending, which includes hardware, software and accessories, to more than $1.3B, or a jump of 24% over past year. NPD Group analyst Sam Naji noted that the Nintendo Switch's launch on March 3 helped bump these numbers up significantly.
This uptick in sales is notable, as total physical sales had previously declined every month for the past year months.
Is there life on Saturn's ocean-bearing moon Enceladus?
The chemical ingredients of life include carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur. Enceladus has a diameter of 310 miles (500 km) and is one of Saturn's innermost moons.
Wildlands took the top spot in USA sales in NPD's latest report, leading in overall sales, and on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. Switch was Nintendo's biggest-ever hardware launch, and "the second biggest launch for any video game platform" since NPD began tracking numbers. Total US hardware sales "almost doubled" Naji said, rising to $485 million.
"In this debut month (month 1), the Nintendo Switch sold 31K more units than previous best-selling Nintendo month-1 platform, the Game Boy Advanced, which released back in June 2001".
Specifically, the Switch's Gray model was the best-selling console of March 2017, followed by the Neon Red/Blue version. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was reported to have over a 99% attach rate, suggesting that the 102% figure quoted by Nintendo included digital sales, and BotW was the second best selling game in the NPD's all-format chart behind Ghost Recon: Wildlands. It's not the best start for a Tom Clancy game, however, as that distinction goes to The Division. Finishing third is actually pretty remarkable, given that the game launched on March 24 (a few days earlier for Origin and EA Access members), and the NPD tracking period ended April 1.
