Fresno gunman gave police blow-by-blow of shootings of 3 men

Fresno police say the man suspected of going on a murder spree Tuesday morning is cooperating with their investigation.

"He (Randalls) was truly the best person I've ever known", Contente said. The suspect, 39-year-old Kori Muhammad is in Fresno Police custody this morning after a shooting rampage in Central Fresno.

Fresno, Calif., Police Chief Jerry Dyer glances over at a photo of victim Zackary Randalls during a news conference at the Fresno Police Department on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Francine Williams and Randy Hicks, mother and stepfather of slain security guard Carl Williams, pose in front of their home in Fresno, Calif., Wednesday, April 19, 2017. The family said while they feel grief they also feel a profound gratitude for all the love and support they have received.

"Once he saw he was wanted for murder, he said he was not going to go down for shooting a security guard...he was going to kill as many white males as possible", he said.

Muhammad's worldview was thoroughly dominated by race.

Next, Dyer said Muhammad shot at another white man walking out of a house, but did not hit him, and then shot at a vehicle, but stopped shooting when he saw two Latina women inside.

Friend Eddie Valencia said Randalls was excited to start work as a customer-service representative and was doing a ride-along Tuesday. Investigators say Muhammad is responsible for a fourth death, 25-year-old security guard Carl Williams, who was shot and killed late Thursday night.

"I unfriended him about two years ago on Facebook", Jojo Romelo, who met Muhammad in 2014 at a nonprofit public access TV studio in downtown, told NBC station KSEE.

Francine Williams said Wednesday that she was in shock but also at peace because she got to tell her son how much she loved him and how proud he made her a few days before his death.

David Jackson, 58, of Fresno, was gunned down in the parking lot of the charity's building.

The chief said investigators don't believe Muhammad worked with anyone else in the attack, calling him "an individual that is filled with hate, filled with anger".

His criminal record also includes making criminal threats, forgery, false imprisonment and driving under the influence, online records state. The suspect showed no remorse, police said.

Cops say it's not terrorism - but it is a hate crime.

Jackson criticized the Fresno police for claiming that the man who murdered whites as he shouted "Allahu akbar" did not commit his crime in the name of Islam. Despite the suspect's alleged views, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials have not yet labeled the killings as a hate crime, though Dyer believes they were.

Muhammad replied that he respected Fresno police officers and did not want to force them to shoot him or put them in the spotlight. Police said Muhammad spent the weekend in a ravine, and after learning he was wanted by police, set out to kill Tuesday.

Muhammad is black. All of the murder victims were white. A psychiatrist who examined Muhammad believed he had psychosis, Muhammad's attorney said in the court filing.
