Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlines vision for augmented reality at F8 conference

Would anyone besides people who describe themselves as "virtual reality enthusiasts" really want to strap on a bulky, expensive headset so they can have interactions that are both more awkward and less personal than real life?

You can check out all the offerings by Facebook's Camera Effects Platform here. For example, Facebook recently launched its own "stories", which are a collection of photos and videos that can be viewed by friends for a limited amount of time, as well as various masks and filters heavily inspired by Snapchat.

In the meantime, Facebook has made a decision to create a developer platform for augmented reality camera lenses popular on platforms such as Snapchat and copied by Facebook on Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.

"Even if we were a little slow to add cameras to all our apps, I'm confident we are going to push this AR forward", he said.

Zuckerberg pointed to a future when unobtrusive glasses or contact lenses would layer a digital world on top of the real world, making one's TV a $5 VR app and not a $500 device.

Posh day at palace: Victoria Beckham gets royal recognition
The insider divulged: "Victoria is incredibly proud of the fashion brand she has built and ever thankful for her fantastic team". David was the first family member to receive an OBE 13 years ago for his contribution to football.

In the demo on stage in front of thousands at the F8 developer conference in San Jose, Calif., Zuckerberg showed a father and two children playing with a smartphone. AR studio is a tool that will enable the developers to create and develop what they want. The company also plans to provide related effects to users.

If Facebook's first act was becoming a large social media platform for sharing your reality - posting messages, photos and videos - then its second act will be about augmenting that reality.

Jokes aside, Facebook is really hoping this platform takes off. Be aware that the company will insist that any frame created in the tool abide by Facebook's guidelines and also not use any trademarked images or content.

Early on in his talk, Zuckerberg addressed the video posted to Facebook on Sunday that showed the murder of Cleveland retiree Robert Godwin Sr.

Zuckerberg said augmented reality will have three important use cases. But, note that Zuckerberg is now talking mostly about things you see in the app - not things you'd see with AR glasses, which he says may come eventually. 'Pokemon GO, ' developed by Niantic and Nintendo, has generated a massive fan following as players can use AR to capture animated characters that appear in real-time locations.
