20 arrested as pro and anti-Trump protesters clash in Berkeley

Saturday's Free Speech Rally was set to feature several controversial far-right speakers, including Lauren Southern, a right-wing radio host, and Kyle Chapman, who rose to internet fame under the moniker "Based Stick Man" after he was arrested for allegedly hitting a violent counter-protester over the head with a stick at the "March 4 Trump" rally.

The chaos erupted during a scheduled "Patriot's Day" event that was sponsored by a pro-Trump group, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Black clad thugs, many wearing hoods and masks, catch up to a Trump supporter at a rally in Berkeley yesterday and put a beating on him.

People from both groups used improvised weapons, including sticks and empty Pepsi cans filled with concrete, to harm opponents. More than a dozen people were arrested after fistfights broke out at a park where supporters and opponents of President Trump had gathered.

About 200 people were at Berkeley's Martin Luther King Jr.

"We're going to review any surveillance video recordings from the area, as well as videos the public sends in to us, and perhaps send out arrest warrants for those people as well", Berkeley police spokesman Byron White told CNN.

Pro-Trump and Anti-Trump groups met in the streets in Berkeley, California Saturday, descending into violence that swept across social media. "They believe in freedom, they're libertarians, they believe they shouldn't be attacked", Trump supporter Ossian Morris said.

Video showed crowds spilling into nearby streets and bloodied people screaming all sorts of epithets.

About half of them were Trump supporters who were gathered to rally in support of the president, while the other half were anti-Trump protesters.

Demonstrators came out in large numbers in about 200 other cities, including a few outside the USA, according to organizers.

Ten people were arrested during the March 4 protests on charges of battery, assault and resisting arrest, according to local news reports.

In February, protesters threw rocks, broke windows and set fires outside the UC Berkeley's student union building, where then-Breitbart News editor and provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos was set to speak.

The Washington, D.C., march began Saturday with a rally at the U.S. Capitol, where Democratic lawmakers called on Trump to stop the secrecy.
