The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee kicked off its nomination hearing for Judge Neil Gorsuch on Monday with a hearty plug from Chairman Chuck Grassley and a warning of what the fourth-generation Coloradan should expect over the next several days. Assuming he ultimately gets approved by the Senate, there are few individuals who will have as direct and immediate impact on what your credit union can and can't do for decades to come.
Gorsuch's three-day hearing begins at 11 a.m.in the Hart Senate Office Building. "It is tempting to deny Judge Gorsuch a fair hearing because of the senate's prior failure".
Gorsuch, a federal judge on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, is a well-regarded jurist who was easily confirmed eight years ago after being nominated by President George W. Bush. There are 11 Republicans and 9 Democrats on the commitee.
Democrats will question whether Mr Gorsuch, a respected conservative judge on a Colorado appeals court, will maintain independence from Mr Trump.
While FBI Director James Comey was blowing up the news cycle with his revelation that there is indeed an ongoing investigation into popular vote loser Donald Trump's campaign ties to Russian Federation, that potentially illegitimate president's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch sat through the first of a week's worth of confirmation hearings. The confirmation hearing is happening 13 months after Justice Antonin Scalia died, creating a vacancy on the supreme court.
"I just want to say I am deeply disappointed that it's under these circumstances that we begin our hearings", Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein said in her opening remarks on Monday.

According to their observations and findings, the stock could provide a high EPS of $0.12/share and a Low EPS of $-0.02/share. Salem Investment Counselors Inc. raised its position in shares of Enbridge Energy Partners, L.P.by 1.0% in the third quarter.
Committee head Sen. Chuck Grassley predicted the first round of questioning will last for about 10 hours, and joked that he would appreciate it if he could be home for his preferred 9 p.m. bedtime.
"In Colorado today there is God and John Elway and Peyton Manning", Gorsuch said during his opening statement about the former Denver Broncos quarterback, and the team's general manager. "I think he struggled with those issues himself as a dad; it's something I could certainly turn to him about", she says. Finally, Gorsuch interjected and asked students to give a show of hands if they knew someone who had used a company for maternity leave and quit the practice right after. Many Democrats, including Blumenthal, have high expectations for Gorsuch.
In a letter to Gorsuch last week, Feinstein asserted that information provided by him about his 2005-2006 employment at the Justice Department raised more questions than it answered. Republican Sen. Cory Gardner underscored that Gorsuch is not "an activist judge" and was well qualified to serve on the nation's highest court.
Gorsuch told the committee he is "honored and humbled" to receive a hearing.
No matter how much the Left loves the Supreme Court decision in Roe, neither that case nor any other constitutes "super precedent", because super precedent does not exist.
