Dwyane Wade Out For Regular Season

The Bulls now sit at 32-36, and a just game out of the playoff hunt for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

"That's heartbreaking", coach Erik Spoelstra said shortly after the Bulls announced Wade would be out for the rest of the regular season with a small fracture and sprain of his right elbow.

A 12-time All-Star and three-time National Basketball Association champion, Wade said he sustained the injury when his elbow was caught awkwardly while battling Zach Randolph and others for a rebound.

Wade, meanwhile, figured he could stick it to Pat Riley and his former Miami Heat club (after they demurred on handing a rich payday to the 35-year old last offseason) by making significant money with a one-time rival from Chicago. This month had already been a mess thanks to an injury and on-court struggles.

Wade's season ends with 18.6 points, 3.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Dwyane Wade's first season back home with the Chicago Bulls is officially over. There's a better fit around Jimmy Butler, especially if there's still an insistence on playing Rondo heavy minutes, to have shooters like Denzel Valentine, Jerian Grant, and Paul Zipser at the wing spots instead of Wade. Most of April is a "cakewalk", but the Bulls could very well be out of the race at that point. If he's injured, it's unfortunate, part of the game, so I won't wish that on anybody. He has teamed up with All-Star Jimmy Butler to try and provide some much-needed scoring and veteran leadership to a team that is seemingly in transition to make some noise in the playoffs.

"This is a first", Wade said.

Bulls: At Washington on Friday against one of the Eastern Conference's hottest teams.

Wade's two-year deal includes a $23.8 million player option for next season. Or does he look to get out of a dysfunctional Bulls organization and hit the open market?

Chicago would be better off moving on from the ill-fated "Three Alphas" experiment.

"It's an opportunity league for certain guys and it comes in different ways", Wade said.

More interesting than whether or not Chicago can claim the eighth seed, though, is what happens after that. "If you've been in this organization with the Miami Heat then you know you're brothers".
